  1. MedCath to open new hospital in Arizona

    August 14, 2007

CHARLOTTE, N.C. --Health care provider MedCath Corp. said Tuesday it will begin construction on a new 105-bed general acute care hospital in Kingman, Ariz. in early 2008.

Hualapai Mountain Medical Center is expected to open with 72 beds in service and space for an additional 33 beds to support future growth. The new hospital will be jointly owned by MedCath and local physicians.

MedCath will own 78.1 percent of the hospital, while the physicians will collectively own the remaining 21.9 percent.

Total development for the project will cost $68.5 million, including preopening expenses of $5.5 million. MedCath is projecting a loss from operations of the hospital in 2009 before turning a profit in 2010 and beyond.
