My partner and I are going on the 22nd Aug, I'm pregnant and am concerned we've picked the wrong place to go. We enjoy sightseeing but wanted a relaxing holiday more than anything. Am i worrying unduly?

  1. lucky you. stop worring you'll have a great time once you're with Mr. right!!!

  2. YEP there's quite a nice beach in Barcelona.  Near the zoo area as I remember,  it is very well organised.  We're from the UK and spent a couple of nice days on the beach here. This beach is well used by the Spanish themselves, which is a good sign.  Surprisingly, as you go further along male nudity seems to be acceptable, I thought the Spanish took a dim view of this!

  3. Barcelona is great, you won't have a problem finding a nice beach.

  4. I live in Barcelona and there are stretches of beach all along the front. The best is if you go past the 'port Olympic'  there are good bars on the beaches and restaurants too. To get there you can either get a taxi (expensive) the bus or the metro (yellow line)

If you want to get some nice beaches i would recommend getting the train and going to St Pol de Mar, it's in Maresmar and is before all of the tourist areas like Calella and Lloret. As someone else mentioned Sitges and Castelldefels, Sitges is too touristy and as you have to get there at 6 in the morning to find a space amongst all the people. Castelldefels is ok but very windy.

If you want to relax i suggest going to the parks in Monjuic, the views are fantastic and it's refreshing under the trees.

A good magazine to get of shows that are on is the 'Barcelona Metropolitan magazine' which is free and you can pick it up in many places.

Have a great time, be warned it's VERY hot here at the moment.

  5. I'm from Spain and I would recommend you to forget all places near northern Barcelona (i.e. Malgrat de Mar, Tossa de Mar, Pineda de Mar). It's better go south. Castelldefels, Sitges (very nice).

  6. there are lots of beaches...but keep in mind that most are if not partially, completely nude...once youre there though, youll want to be doing more sightseeing than relaxing...theres SO much to do...i stayed there two weeks and felt like i didnt have enough time.

  7. my trip to Barcelona was pretty hectic.. if you want sight seeing the beaches may be a bit busy for you.. you've got to go see the Sagrada Familia by Antoni Gaudi it's easily one of the most impressive things I've seen in my life..

and the park he designed is worth seeing too

those two places were worth the trip in it's self..

  8. when I went to Barcelona back in April (daytrip), it reminded me very much of London.
