Are there any nocturnal type of birds?

The most common time I hear birds chirping is in the morning, but sometimes I hear a bird or two chirping at night.

Is there a nocturnal species of bird?

    Also whipporwills and snipes are nocturnal

  4. there are many different species of nocturnal birds. most, if not all species of owl are nocturnal. there are also many different hawks, falcons, and other birds that are nocturnal

  6. Some songbirds also twitter at night, then though they aren't truly nocturnal. Noise and light pollution are being blamed for it.

  7. Emile beat me to the answer. There is a seagull native to the Galapagos islands that is the only nocturnal gull known. I hear there are many birds native to  rain forest that are nocturnal but that is hear say.

  8. Besides the birds others have mentioned...you might be hearing Mockingbirds or even some other species that are usually active in the day.  During breeding season, males are pretty full of testosterone and may sing all night long!
