Are there any open auditions to be in soaps?

I think you can check out local casting companies, and you can sign up to be an extra.  Then if they need extras, they might call you.  Otherwise I've heard that local productions sometimes have open auditions for plays or musicals that you could check out.

there are no open auditions for soaps, you generally need an agent for that.  however, many of the casting directors hold 'cold reading/audition' seminars.  

if there is a soap opera you want to be seen for go to imdb.com and look up who casts it (on left, click 'cast and crew credits).  for example "As the World Turns" is cast by mary clay boland

then, find the casting director's website.  you can usually sign up for a workshop there.  or google the CD's name and "workshop".  see below for tvi studio classes where MCB does workshops.
