Are there any organizations that accept damaged clothing?

Our house was vandalized, and we have a large amount of clothing that has a small amount of paint damage. I hate to just trash all of it as it is still wearable. Are there organizations that would accept this clothing for the people that truly need it?

  1. charity shops  :)

  2. Why would you want to give people stained clothing?  Just because a person is needy doesn't mean that looking nice doesn't matter for them.  If you wouldn't want anyone to see YOU in it, throw it away.

BTW, most charities have to pay for getting rid of clothing, or other items that they can't use (they rarely get free trash service since they usually have so much), so giving them something just because you don't want to be the one to throw it away just ends up costing them money.

  3. I'd post it on my local Freecycle group. Someone may be looking for painting clothes, or scrap fabric, etc.

Got to freecycle.org to find a group near to you.

  4. Possibly the Salvation Army or Goodwill could use the clothing, primarily for their thrift stores-but they use the clothing for their clients as well.

You could check with other faith-based groups in your area.

You could also offer the clothing to quilting groups that donate their quilts to those in need (wounded soldiers, ill children, indigent people in nursing homes). Sometimes community theaters or school drama clubs can use clothing for their costumes or to wear over their clothes when they are constructing sets. Children's groups sometimes use old clothing for their play 'dress-up' boxes (abuse shelters, nurseries, preschools, moms day out groups, childcare centers, hospital play rooms).

You could join your local freecycle group and offer the clothes on the freecycle website for your area.

Sorry to read your home was vandalized. Hope all goes well for you now!

  5. Most charities will accept the damaged clothing. They sort all clothing anyhow and a van from a company that has a use for the charity's unwanted clothing collects once or twice a week.

  6. Please ignore all the rude people that answered you question. Here are a couple good ideas:

    1. The clothing that is just slightly damaged may be thrown at a salvation army, but you could try to hand them out to people. Trust me if your that cold, any warm article of clothing is a wonderful blessing.

    2. For things really damaged, you could see if a local preschool, daycare, or school is in need of art smocks. There going to get them dirty anyway, might as well start them off!

    3. If you have any clothes that are soft and warm you can try sending them to this women to make into quilts. Then give the quilts to people without a bed to sleep on.

Good luck! I hope I helped!

  7. There's plenty of used clothing around in most cities for those needing it usually.  Maybe donate the shirts for paint smocks for art classes at least.
