  1. Contact local churches

    The Salvation Army

and the airline....be prepared to give all the info such as name of decedent and funeral home.

I am so sorry to hear of the untimely loss :-(.

  2. Welfare might also have an emergency fund. It can't hurt to ask. Ask all the places suggested. Consider buying a bus ticket. I know, yuck! My Dad died years ago when I was poor. I lived in Virginia and he was in Oregon. I took the bus with my two little ones. They got the flu on the ride out (3 days) and I got it when my sis picked us up.

She cleaned us up and got us to the funeral in time. It's a very stressful time. Best of luck on working this out.

Thank you for being such a wonderful friend and helping her work this out.

  3. Ask friends, neighbors, relatives, clergy, etc. to donate money for the flight.

  4. I recommend contacting the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.  I don't know if they still help on cases like this, but I know of people who have received help from them on this issue in the past.  This isn't an unusual problem.

    Thank you for asking.

  5. If you tell the airline that you are travelling for a funeral, they will usually give you a discount. It is called a "bereavement rate".

  6. Inform the airlines, there are "bereavement" airfares.  You will need a copy of a death announcements or something from the hospital stating she died and they reduce the price, please call NOW, perhaps you can have the paper FAXED to you or her to get her there soon.  I used it when my dad died, it saved $900
