Are there any other events as "prestigious" or large as the Olympics?

Question

Large music festivals or concerts, the Academy Awards, Cannes Film Festival, Nobel Prize ceremonies, G8 summit etc. Does any other event even come close?

the olympics are one of the greatest sporting events by far because of the size and amount of participation and recognition. but each sport has it's own "prestigious" events. the world cup is one of these. the super bowl being a large example. the world series for baseball and so on..

There isn't any event that reaches the same magnitude of the Olympics.  The closest perhaps would be the World Cup soccer.

The World Cup is by far the biggest international event.  It blows the Olympics out of the water.

There's so much more passion in it.

At least for the rest of the world.

For America it's probably the Super Bowl, but that's not an international event.  No body outide the US cares.
