Question:

Are there any other high speed ISP's that can work in Verizon's FiOS area?

I live in a Verizon FiOS area and it seems that every other company ISP is afraid to go into Verizon's area AT&T, Earthlink and others). So far the only alternatives are Time-Warner cable and the $99/month satelite companies. I would rather just use DSL and not pay $50 or $99 per month.

  1. If your neighborhood is fairly new then I doubt that anything other than Fios and TWC will be available, because Verizon is laying only Fiber in new areas and no copper. Also if the area did not previously have DSL available through Verizon there is a chance that there is no other option. Other internet companies such as Earthlink, DSL Extreme, ect get there DSL equipment leased from Verizon , AT&T, Qwest, ect. If Verizon had supported DSL before then there is a possibility you can get it from Earthlink or DSL Extreme, or you can google for other options. If you have Fios right now and have had the copper stripped from your house by Verizon you might have to pay a bit more to get it put back, but you can't go back to Verizon DSL after having Verizon Fios.

  2. do a google search like dsl+maine  you get something like this: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&clien...
