  1. The unfortuanate occurence of SE ( side effects) from laboratory produced pharmaceuticals often require several trail and error situations which can be very frustrating for the person suffering from Restless Leg Syndrome.

The meds used to reduce the frequency of these uncontrolled movements are classified as antiparkisonian meds....as Parkinson's also results in uncontrollable muscle movements.  In addition to Mirapax, Sinimet and Requip are also available - usually taken by mouth prior to sleep.. An unusual side effect of Sinimet is the uncontrolled desire to gamble - not always in a Casino but also in  the form of excessive particiapation with on-line auctions.....

If RLS is caused by a validated Mineral deficiency then it is recommended that the supplement contain Calcium Gluconate, Magnesium Gluconate and Potassium Chloride.  As with any supplement the desired outcome will not be noticed as quickly as with a prescribed pharmaceutical.

It is wise to know that not all RLS situations are due to mineral deficiencies.  There may well be a Neurological basis for the Diagnosis - such as damage to spinal nerves or damage from back surgery etc etc.

Another approach is to soak your feet in a Ginger bath for 10 minutes prior to bed.  Grate about half of a fresh Ginger root into a container of hot steamy water.  When the mixtures cools enough, immerse your feet and enjoy.  Also, try a foot and lower leg massage - Swedish style soothing strokes rather than deep, quick strokes....you want to allow the parasympathetic nervous system ( the quieting part of the nervous system) to take over .... Using an integrated approach ( Natural/Complementary and Western Health care) will often give you the best of both worlds.l  Good Luck

  2. RLS is primarily a Magnesium deficency.  Drug companies cannot patent magnesium so they will not tell you this.  Increase your magnesium levels by taking a citrate bound magnesium and calcium supplement that also contains vitamin D.  Foods that are a good source of magnesium are brown rice, raw almonds, and cooked spinach.  However if you have RLS your magnseium levels must be very low, so try the supplement first.  Also I strongly suggest that you consult a Naturopathic doctor or a holistic nutritionist.
