I took on a family member who is a 16 year old male and it is not working out for us. He has made some good progress. But, he is very behind acedemiclly, impulsive and has some issues with authority figures. I am looking for a good residental placement for him. What are the pros and cons of Job Corp or these type of places?

  1. I know in some states there is the Ombudsman program.  The students do their schooling on computers about 3 hours a day and then have to work a job the rest of the time.  I know many of the students that I have worked with in a program for students with emotional handicaps end up going to this program when they are in high school.  It's just a thought.  They can be found online, the program and such is explained pretty well there.

  2. He needs to make sure that he finishes his education or at least gets a GED. I would consider tech school to learn a trade. Some school districts offer alternative schools for youth with problems. If you can afford it military school is a good option. if his school has a guidance counselor, arrange a time to speak with them.
