  1. Read "The 12th Planet" by Zecharia Sitchin

  2. Darwinism has two parts to it that are completely separate.

One is the theory that all present life forms have their origin in previous life forms - decent with modification.  That suggestion explains, in general, the fossils that are found around the world.

The second and entirely different aspect is the mechanism that could produce such a biological train of events.  That mechanism is competition for life sustaining resources - like food or shelter.  The Darwinian view is that competition together with natural genetic variation - differential survival of those most fit for a particular environment - would be sufficient to explain how decent with modification could take place.

If a better mechanism for producing the biological train of events is found that would be OK too.  There have been many candidates and all have been found lacking.

If decent with modification is to be modified then the fossil record must be explained.  I am not talking about the lack of transitional forms but rather the overall increase in complexity over time and the local nature common ancestors - fossil life forms in a locality are similar to but different from those living life forms in that locality.

Prior to Darwin many theories had been put forth to explain what was being revealed by fossils and by the voyages of discovery in the 1500's through the 1700's and the classification of life forms by Karl von Linné Linnaeus and vertebrate paleontology by George Curvier.

In the late 1700's the French mathematician and naturalist, George Louis Leclerc, Comte de Buffon, actually said that living things do change through time.  He speculated that this was somehow a result of influences from the environment or even chance.

Another late 18th century evolutionist was Erasmus Darwin , the grandfather of Charles Darwin.  He believed that evolution has occurred in living things including humans, but he only had rather fuzzy ideas about what might be responsible for this change.

Another theory with mechanism was put forth be  Jean Baptiste de Lamarck.   This mechanism was known as "the inheritance of acquired characteristics."

Each theory had major problems that became greater as more discoveries were made.  Until Darwin there was no better theory available.

Want to go down in history...  come up with a better theory that explains, with reason, the findings of biology, genetics, paleontology, and distribution.

  3. I guess intellectualism. Persnonally I do not think religion is a theory but that is me and I do not expect everyone else to think the same way as I do. This is the wrong section to ask this question.  This section is for earth science and geology.
