And how easy/hard for you was it to live by this life style?

I am living in in a southern state myself, and I find it extremely hard.

Does any one have any advice? I have been vegan for five years but it some times is hard to put up with prejudice feelings still.

  1. Susan from the wildly popular Fat Free Vegan Kitchen blog lives in Jackson, Mississippi and she seem like she's getting along just great.  Perhaps you can contact her through her blog here: http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/

  2. I do live south of the Mason Dixon line and have been vegan for 2 yrs and 9 months.  (vegetarian since birth).

I can't stand the prejudice and harassment either.  I usually don't tell the locals that I'm vegan.

The best advice I can give you is to stick with whole foods.  I don't mean the grocery store.  I mean don't fret about a lack of specialty vegan products, instead eat fresh vegetables -- you'll be healthier.

You can always order some stuff online http://www.veganessentials.com is a great store.

When people give you attitude, you could try to ignore it and walk away

You could say that you don't push your beliefs on them and they need to show you the same respect.   You could give them 10 reasons for being vegetarian  -- watch the video and write down each one and memorize to give yourself ammo ---  http://www.leechvideo.com/video/view2563...

  3. I'm a vegetarian, wanting to be a vegan, living in Texas.  In a smallish town, too.

I know I've met vegans but I can't think of any at the top of my head around Texas.  I know several vegetarians here though.
