  1. you could try colored water.  Like blue & yellow, or red and blue.

a may pole is also an option.

  2. There are lots of ways you can do it.  Sand, wine, confetti, leaves (better in fall), river rocks.  You could still use candles--just protect them from the wind.  You could use flameless candles or lanterns.

There are many ideas.  If it's an outdoor wedding that is more informal, there are lots of items outside you could use.  From flowers to pinecones.  You could even spray paint something the colors of your wedding.  Two artists even did a painting.  They were into modern art so they did something with Red, Blue and Purple, and at the bottom each signed their last names before in one corner and current name in the middle.  The only point is that it be one creation when it is all said and done.

  3. You could do a rose ceremony instead, that's what we're doing for our outside ceremony. We'll be handing roses to our mothers and grandmothers while a song is played by our musicians. If you really want a unity candle and your reception is indoors, you can always light it inside at the start of your reception.
