without "going" somewhere for lessons? Are there any homeschool 'academies' that allow

us to keep the finished workbooks? (Since

everything he writes in becomes a sentimental

keepsake)!

  1. Alpha Omega has workbooks called Life Pacs.  And I believe the only part you turn in if you enrolled in their academy are the tests.  However, you don't have to enroll in an academy to homeschool, you can do it independently.

    For Alpha Omega go to

    http://www.aop.com

For guitar, I know that there are video courses available, you can probably get one from http://www.rainbowresource.com

  2. You really have three questions here.

I'll answer the academy one.  I would think, like the online virtual academies, that any finished workbooks would be considered "consumable" and you could keep them, except for any portfolio submission items.  Textbooks and other reusable materials will have to be sent back, but not finished workbooks.

I would look at AOP's Lifepacs if you're looking for a workbook-only curriculum.

  3. Alpha Omega and Christian Light also have workbooks.  I know you can get guitar videos and books that will teach you.  My daughters learned to play the flute, saxophone, oboe, and clarinet from books.

  4. There's an endless supply of workbooks out there. We have actually found some of ours at Costco, of all places! But if you stop by your local teachers' supply store (or look online) you'll be able to find workbooks galore.

As for guitar, some of the world's best musicians claim they taught themselves. My cousins (not the best in the world, but certainly amazing) are all self taught. They started by watching other people play, fiddling around with their guitars, then they learned cords from either books (like "Country & Blues Guitar for the Musically Hopeless") or learned to read tabulature. If you can understand tabs (it's not too hard) you can find tab notes all over the internet, for just about any song anyone might want to play. Just Google guitar tabs. (No quotes, just those two words in the search box.)

The key to any instrument is practice. Direction sure helps you learn the tricks, but practice is what makes all the difference in the world.

  5. Alpha Omega Life Pac. But What i heard ACE are better. But don't take my word for it. You can check it out on www.homeschoolreviews.com

  6. yes, there are a wide variety of materials available, and some are secular.
