  1. The substance GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) is a naturally occurring neurotransmitter that is used within the brain to reduce the activity of certain nerve systems, including those related to anxiety/worry.  You can buy it by itself or you can get valerian root extract which naturally contains GABA.  It's used more often for sleep because it helps to calm the brain down so you can get to sleep.

In a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, 36 people with generalized anxiety disorder were given either valerian extract, valium, or placebo for a period of 4 weeks.  The study failed to find statistically significant differences between the groups, which showed valerian as helpful as valium...

If you try this, look at the label and make sure it is standarized to a % of valerenic acids and not just valerian powder which is very weak.

  2. Kava Kava, catnip and valerian are all helpful

  3. i beleive that st johns wort will work. you can find it at herbal shops. also try not to realy take in a lot of caffine. try walking a little . you know little things like that. god bless. good luck

  4. i dont think so. anxiety pills are usually really strong and need to be prescribed

  5. There are herbs like Valerian that help calm some people. The best thing would be to go to a supplement store and talk to someone. Usually all the calming stuff in together on one shelf.

I take something called 5htp that helps stabilize my moods some. It's from a supplement store and has no side effect.

If you use any supplements, be sure to tell your doctor.
