  1. Yes, there are people who have studied the field intently (and some formally).  In addition, there are some who have performed experiments in an attempt to determine the truth about unexplained phenomenon.  These are trained scientists who are trying to help cut through the noise and provide information to those who are interested on this forum.

You can find these people through their answers.

  2. Parapsychologists with PhDs?  I'm not sure Deenie, but that would be interesting to know.  What about parapsychologists as professionials (those who do research for a living and are associated with a professional research organization)? Again, that would be interesting to know and it would certainly make for some interesting Q&A.

Or do you mean parapsychologists as a hobby or interest but not in qualified by any institution? In that case, there are probably a bunch here already. I think the definition of parapsychologist may be unclear here so I'm not sure exactly how to answer.

I think most of us here -- scientists, believers, paranormal enthusiasts, and skeptics (not mutually exclusive)  -- are here to try to help people using each of our experiences and information.

  3. Sure! There's no real qualifications, kind of like being a ghost hunter.

  4. I think we're all in this together.  After all, it takes a village, right?

  5. It depends on your definition. If you mean only those that hold a doctorate in parapsychology then I doubt it. There are very few of those in the world.

If you mean a psychologist (requires a doctorate) that did his or her dissertation on something related to parapsychology then possibly ( a few more of those exist).

If you mean someone working full time in the field of parapsychology again I doubt it (very few of those people).

If you mean a person that is a scientist that does research on parapsychology in perhaps research projects or his/her spare time then again possibly.

If you simply mean an educated person that has some experience with parapsychology then I suspect there are such people on from time to time.

For example one of the remote viewers for the US StarGate Remote Viewing program (a retired military intelligence officer) is on this forum infrequently.

To once again correct some posted misinformation there is a qualification to called a parapsychologist and that would be a doctorate degree in parapsychology. Lloyd Auerbach who holds a Masters degree appropriately calls himself a parapsychological associate. This is taken from psychology where Masters are licensed as psychological associates and PhD and PsyD are licensed psychologist.

Most people working in the field of parapsychology hold doctorate degrees in some conventional science (psychology, engineering, biology, etc) and call themselves by the title in which they have a degree. For example Rupert Sheldrake while doing experiments on ESP in animals still is a biologist not a parapsychologist.

I can't speak for anyone but myself but I am trying to help people on this forum when I can by showing them where to find the research that has been done concerning the questions they ask.

  6. I'm a self-taught psychologist who has had numerous paranormal encounters and is now very interested in the science of the paranormal--if that may qualify me-? I'm looking for answers and have no preconceived agendas. Helping each other seems a healthy way to achieve that end.

I represent all honest, curious inquiry.

  7. Wolfeye, I thought the same but what about Loyd Auerbach? He holds a BA in Cultural Anthropology from Northwestern University (1978), and an MS in Parapsychology from JFK University (1981).

Deenie.. you should check out some of Loyd Auerbach books, they are right up your alley.

  8. Parapsychologists?...                w00t ? :-/

As far as I know there is no certification for someone to become a parapsychologist but you can study that by yourself from books, documentaries and other peoples experiences...

I am poor in live experiences but I have some informations...

    So...what do you need ?...

Deenie you can contact me on email wolfeye_x@yahoo.com.
