Question:

Are there any peanut-free chocolate chip brands?

Summer camp's over and after school care is starting up again. We have a little boy coming with a severe peanut and cashew allergy (not at all a new thing for us, we have all necessary precautions in place). I am wondering if anyone knows of a brand of chocolate chips that is certified 'peanut-free' so that we can do home-made cookies for snack.

Thanks in advance!

  1. In response to another responder, Nestles' chocolate chips all say that they may be peanut/nut-contimnated on the packages, unless something has changed recently.  I am allergic, and love chocolate chips . . . so sometimes just linger in the baking section looking at every package available.  Hershey's you can't really county on either, although some Hershey's dark chocolate products seem to work for me.  Still, check with them.

At Whole Foods, they used to claim to have a nut/peanut chocolate chip, but they were also free of some other allergens, and don't quite taste the same.  Still, if you have access to Whole foods, check with them.

  2. Contact Nestles or Hersheys and see if they have allergy information about their chocolate chips.  Most places do, or will supply you with more information if you ask about it.

  3. check at your local health food store. read all the labels. this cookbook might be helpful as well. special diet solutions healthy cooking without wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, yeast or refined sugar by carol fenster phd. check out your local library to see if they have anything that can help you. then try amazon.com or albris.com   i      have corn and wheat allergies.
