Question:

Are there any peas that produce all summer?

I planted my peas late, and most died without producing anything (I live in zone 7; we've had some 100 deg. days).

But one plant just hangs in there, producing a few small sweet, tender peas. They're sugar peas.

I'm wondering if I have a new variety. They'd probably belong to the company I bought the seeds from, but maybe they'd give me a finder's fee or royalty or something.

  1. Most peas will do this in summer. But there is hope this year - go down to the local seed shop & buy some. You can plant later this year and probally get another crop before it gets too cold.

I'm in zone 5 - I can get the first ones out before the first frost date, and another bunch later in the year. Good luck!

  2. IF it breeds true and IF you can produce a hundred plants like it, you may be in luck. Many of the varieties of plants we grow in our gardens were discovered by amateur gardeners who found a new variety with interesting characteristics.

  3. There are already several heat and drought resistant pea varieties.  Miragreen is one.  Contact the seed company.  What have you go to lose?
