  1. yes, lots of patience

  2. Abilities include patience, subject area competence, good judgment, and professionalism.

A lot of personality types are great for teaching, but if you are a very negative or pessimistic person, you should probably stay out of teaching.

  3. Being a retired teacher (32 years as a High School teacher), I can tell you that you have to have a passion for what you do and teach...without that, the hassles will kill you.  Other than that, you need to like the people and the age group of the students you teach as well.

As far as the four areas you mention; I don't think any of them would contribute (or hinder) your ability to be effective.  I have known short men who could easily control a classroom of macho giants, and people of gigantic physical proportions be brought to tears by unfeeling kids.  One of the most effective teachers I know is a severely physically challenged man who could inspire students to excel far beyond the average achievement.  Teaching is as much an art form as it is a discipline.  Never forget that, no matter what all the mumbo jumbo the “teacher education classes” try to tell, you are an artist whose art is the ability to motivate and inspire.
