Question:

Are there any post high school military academy prep schools?

My son would love to go to a military academy. He's going to be a senior and so far his grades are just above average. I think that if he does a year of post high school at a military academy college prep school it will increase his chances of getting into an academy. If you do well, they nominate you directly. If not, I believe that it will at the very least allow him to mature, improve his grades and give him the opportunity to get into a better college than he would now. Is this a good plan?

  1. Try The Citadel in either North or South Carolina.  It is a military academy.

  2. Norwich is good, so is Northwestern Prep.  There's also New Mexico Military Institute and Marion.  He could also apply for the academies - realizing that his grades may need work - with the possibility of being nominated to an official prep school (the Naval Academy Prep School applies to both USNA & USCGA candidates, for example) or a scholarship to one of the above-mentioned prep schools.

He could also try for VMI, the Citadel, or even SUNY Maritime.

  3. ma'am it sounds good but people mature on their time not yours. military prep schools? Not entirely sure. But they do have a military university, I think it's Norwhich

  4. There are junior colleges that maintain military cirriculum. The one my brother, who is now a Signal Corps Captain in Vicenza, Italy, went to is Marion Military Institute for two years and was commissioned 2nd LT when he graduated. Classmates of his went on to the Air Force academy while he finished at a private school. It just depends what he wants when he graduates. There are several in the nation...google, or excuse me, yahoo it...

  5. There are several. The citadel is the most commonly heard of, but I would recommend the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell NM. It is a fine institution with a proud history and a lot lower tuition.
