Are there any pro surfers that amounted to anything that took up surfing after the age of 20???

  1. Probably not but what does it matter.  There's millions of surfers and only 45 on the world tour, but that doesn't mean we have any less fun.  In fact we may have more fun since we aren't doing it as a "job."

There are a small handful of guys who started pretty late and were able to nail a few titles but they've mostly been longboarders and tend to compete in Masters Tournaments and older guy competitions. Many are also lifetime amateurs which isn't too bad either as you still get to compete in a lot of open events,

    Most top-notch pros started surfing in grade school and surfed in the NSSA competitions (National Scholastic Surfing Assocation) which is where a lot of scouting happens.

    Whatever the case, if you're good, you're good and at least you know you'll have fun surfing no matter what happens.

  3. I very much doubt it.

    Only about 0.0001% of surfers are pro. If thats your motivation for surfing, stick to tiddlewinks.

    For fun ..... nothing better.
