I am a 22 year old low income single mom, and my daughter and i are living in a studio apartment with no kitchen, and very little space. This apartment and our landlord are terrible. We cant run the microwave and the hot plate at the same time. I mean this place is so bad. Can anyone tell me if there is a program to help me relocate into a more livable apartment.

  1. You don't apply at city hall.   You apply at the housing authority.   They may not be accepting applications, the waiting list is about 5 years long at this time.    But you can try.    Bring your ID, your proof of income, your childs birth certificate and your child support order.

You will end up paying 1/3 of your income to rent.   So, if you are minimum wage, which is $8 an hr in CA and lets say you get $200 a month for your daughter, your rent is 493 a month, no matter where you rent.   Section 8 picks up the rest.    You would qualify for a 2 bedroom house or apartment, you just need to find a landlord willing to rent to you (you are on your own finding a place.)

In the mean time you may qualify for food stamps, that is usually $320.   You apply for this at social services.   While this is not rent money it does free up your income so that you can afford a better place.

    Good luck!

Edit-----I just saw that you confirm that LA is not accepting applications.    This is the tax payer program, there is not another tax payer program to add more money.

Try your church.   I have a tenant who's church pays her rent, which is 950 a month, every month for her.   There are lots of private organizations where they people who want to contribute more then they already do in taxes belong to.

  2. Apply for a program called Section 8. Call the LA City Hall and ask them how do you apply for the program.
