Are there any programs to test Hard Drive performance?

i heard there was one where it writes / erases stuff to check for bad sectors on the hardrive? what program is this? i think my hard drive is bad since it keeps making weird noises. please and thanks

Right click on the my computer icom and select properties then select check and repair bad disc sectors.

OR

go to start and select RUN then type chkdsk and hit the enter button.

If you want to do so more free checking go to pcpitstop and select run full test,they will tell you what is wrong and how to takecare of the problem most of wich you can do for yourself

try hiren's boot cd it's full of tools for that kinda thing.

Type CHKDSK in the Start/run then press enter. For a hard drive utility most manufacturers have their own tools, but chkdsk is good and also has repair functions.
