Are there any proud patriotic Americans left? Did my kin and I fight in vain?

Me, my father and grandfather have been in the U.S army and we fought some tough battles, we fought for our nation, we love the United States of America with a passion, but yet when I go on You-Tube and look up some kind of patriotic video I ALWAYS see comments from other people bashing our country, whether they are from here or not it still hurts to here, it hurts more when they live here because that's who we fought for, we fought for their freedom and their rights to learn, work, and prosper in life because we feel that keeping the next generation alive will strengthen our country. But I hardly find any people who are loyal to their country, they argue about petty issues like parking tickets, taxes, etc. but me and my father and grandfathers have seen war torn places, and 3rd world countries that are just horrible, no freedom, nothing to look forward to, nothing, but yet these people still don't appreciate what they have here, it makes me and my father feel as if we've fought for people who don't care about our efforts to keep them safe, I know we're not perfect, but we do try be good people. People from other countries migrate here to have a better life and sometimes even THEY are more patriotic. Some may argue that their is no such thing as AMERICAN, and that all of us are made up of different races etc., and I know that but I don't consider being American a race, I consider it a nationality. So I ask you readers, are any of you still happy to be American? are there still people out there who recognize the sacrifices we and countless others made to set the stage for the future? did I bleed, cry, and face fear for nothing? or are there still some people who love the red, white and blue?

  1. once obama is in office, things will change.

    he'd make me more patriotic...

i appreciate what the soldiers but i'm embarrassed by their chief and what he makes them do.

although, i'm totally patriotic towards the women's soccer team! gold baby!!

  2. 1: If you were patriotic you would not go on youtube looking for patriotic videos.

2: A true patriot accepts the flaws of their country and strive to fix them. They don't go whining about how people are so unpatriotic.

3: People from other countries migrate to America but it gets one of te smallest numbers of immigration in the 1st world when you break it down by size.

4: I am very patriotic but unlike you I don't have a war-mongering, money hungry government.

  3. ha ha ha ha ur country is a joke.everywere in d world wer there is a war ur country is involved,u stick ur nose in wer its not wanted.u tink u ar d good ones but d truth is nobody likes d americans.i would never go to d us simply because i hate ur country.ur country will end up startin a nuclear war in d future nd u will all die.ur all terrorists

  4. I am proud, I love my country til death.

  5. BRAVO ZULU.

  6. We will fight and defend our country , even against those in our country that will try to distroy it ... one way is to VOTE against the socialist that will s***w up our country. .......... No to obama........

  7. If you fought to have everybody blissfully happy with America 100% of the time, you fought for the wrong reasons.

My kin fought as well for Canada.

They fought so that we would have the freedom to speak our minds, even if they violently disagreed with what we had to say.  That's what freedom of expression is about - granting someone else the freedom to say that which makes your blood boil.

A lot is right with America right now, but there's a lot wrong, too.

Sticking your head in the sand and pretending it's patriotic to say, "My country right or wrong" is little more than treason, for it keeps evil in the dark where it grows and festers.

You may not like to hear the negative opinions, but those people are fighting a war as well - liberty can be stolen as easily by bureaucrats  as it can be by a foreign enemy.

  8. This sounds more like a political diatribe and not so much a question but I'll throw in my two cents.

There's a huge difference between patriotism and blind nationalism, and I think for some the dichotomy between the two is blurred. Patriotism entails doing what's right. Blind nationalism entails acting out for your country when it's right as well as when it's  wrong. I find there are multitudes of people who engage in blind nationalism, yet label it as Patriotism.

Invading a sovereign nation under false pretenses is wrong. Torturing human beings is wrong. Dropping bombs on civilian populations is wrong. You become your enemy when you take on the very characteristics that you claim to be fighting against.

People are speaking out against America because they feel that the United States government is engaging in deplorable behavior. If they speak out for what's right, when it goes against their country's own government, doesn't make them any less of a patriot to me.

“A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government.”

    - Edward Abbey

  9. i support the troops, i really do. i can't find words to say about the sacrifices that you and your family have made for this country.

however, i do not support the war that the troops are currently fighting. which is to say, i support people, not death and destruction.

i would rather be a patriot who is sensible to her country's flaws than a blind nationalist who attacks anyone who speaks the truth as 'unpatriotic'.

it's true that this country is in a deplorable state now. and it's a fact that we can't ignore, what with the energy, housing, education, financial crises, etc. etc.

we can't fix it if we don't speak out.

  10. This seems like a rant however there are still Americans who value the Constitution and are ready to defend it.
