Are there any published papers proving any paranormal phenomena?

Not trying to stir it up, I just wondered if there is any scientific evidence to support the existence of any paranormal phenomena. By scientific evidence I mean a tested hypothesis published in a scientific journal.

  1. Given your earlier question, I can't tell if you're baiting us or if you're on the level.  Besides, it wouldn't matter if there were any published papers on the matter.  A skeptic is always going to look for an explanation that fits their belief.  Are scientific journals the only thing out there to convince you?  What about life experience?  What about coming face to face with the unexplained?

  2. A survey of the beliefs of the general United States population regarding paranormal topics was conducted by the Gallup Organization in 2005.

The survey found that 73 percent of those polled believed in at least one of the ten paranormal items presented in the survey.

Items included in the survey were as follows (the percentage of respondents who indicated that they believed in the phenomenon is in parenthesis): Extrasensory perception (41%), haunted houses (37%), ghosts (32%), telepathy (31%), clairvoyance (26%), astrology (25%), communication with the dead (21%), witches (21%), reincarnation (20%), and channeling spiritual entities (9%).

Only one percent of those surveyed believed in all ten items.

  3. Not sure what type of paranormal phenomena you are thinking about.

I read a book about 2 years ago called "The Afterlife Experiments".  Two scientists did double-blind studies to see if well known mediums could speak to the dead.

It was a good book and the findings were surprising for many.  I was never crazy about John Edward because he seemed weird to me, but he did the best out of any of them.  Something like 95% accuracy if I remember correctly, and that guy was giving full names, like "Who is Edmond?"  Who is Sid?"  Rare names and he was right on.

It's a good one if you are interested.

  4. First let us correct the assumption in your question that science proves anything, it does not. The scientific method is used to test hypothesis. Experiments (testing hypothesis) either fail to provide support for the hypothesis or provide supporting evidence for the hypothesis.

When enough evidence supporting the hypothesis is gathered it becomes generally accepted in the scientific community until further experiments and evidence refine or overturn these findings. For example Newton (that formulated that gravity was not subject to the speed of light) to Einstein (that via relativity showed gravity was subject to the speed of light) to Planck (with Quantum Mechanics).

Yes, there are papers published in peer reviewed scientific journals that provide supporting evidence for the existence of certain paranormal phenomena. In particular  Extra Sensory Perception (ESP), Remote Viewing, and Psychokinesis (PK).

I have included several links for you below.

  5. The only "proof" for anyone is THEIR OWN EXPERIENCE. Nothing else will do!!

  6. That will be a big no. There are a lot of hypothesis, but none of them is tested to be right.

  7. No.  No documented scientific evidence that I have been able to find on any kind of paranormal.   The people who claim to me that there is never can come up with a source, etc.

Also, seems to be a real lack of real researchers in this area.

Most of the so called experts in the area seem to just be actors, self educated people etc. who just "ghost bust", etc for a  hobby.   People like the TAPS people are just entertainers, and are certainly not doing real science.  Just their opinions  on a bump in the night, etc.

With all of the people claiming to be psychics, this should be something very easy to test.   But for some reason evidently they cannot prove the ability, etc.

There has been some research on dopamine levels causing people to see things that are not really there, etc.  But I am going to have to dig some for the details.  If you do a search on "dopamine", you will find some interesting articles regarding this.

I also found an interesting article from Newsweek that may help to explain "ghost phenomena"  etc.

I feel that while research may not support "paranormal activity",  I think that it will as time goes on  help explain as to why people sometimes tend to believe in such phenomena, seeing things and hearing sounds that are not really there, etc.

Belief in the paranormal I guess would kind of like a belief in God.  It is just something that some will believe in spite of the absence of scientific evidence.

  8. Yes scientist have found evidence of the paranormal as real. Yes it's has been proven as real. The word means "NOT SCIENTIFICALLY  EXPLAINED (1920)"  once a paranormal "thing" is proven by science then it is know as "normal", and no longer paranormal.

I have an example of that, and you can look it up. At one time BALL LIGHTNING was thought to be "paranormal" until science found proof that ball lightning was in fact a real, and does happen.

Such as "remote viewing" is still considered as paranormal, even though our own government has use it during the cold war. They proven the viewers were 90% accurate with spying on a Russian base.

What the word "paranormal" mean to me (personally)  "that NOT 100% believe." (which is fine)

Just imagine what could of been paranormal in our past history. From Fire , to electricity and so on. We just have to keep having faith that maybe one day more things will be proven scientifically..... but then again FAITH could be consider to be paranormal too since we can only feel it.... (like other emotions.)

  9. There are no papers that definitively conclude the existence of "paranormal phenomena".  There are a handful of researchers who have published papers that look favorably upon the body of evidence supporting things like canine ESP and humans anticipating rolling dice.

  10. No there isn't,not one anywhere. Not anything you can rely on.That doesn't stop people. from believing in it.The thing about the paranormal. You never really get to see it.You just have to take someones word for it.

  11. even if there was, there would still be those people who just cant accept the fact.  but i have heard some promising reports of studies that have come close...
