18/19 yr olds out there taking out their own car insurance policies? How hard is it to do that? d**n near impossible, with a minimum wage job? Any advice or any kind of insurance that would be kind to a student's pocket?

  1. They are all expensive for drivers under 25.  Ask your insurance agent what vehicles have the lowest rates.  I found that around here an older pickup truck was cheapest on insurance.  Of the cars I already owned, a 1997 chevy cavalier cost almost double of what they charged to insure the 1979 cobra mustang.

    They seem to base the rates on statistics instead of common sense.

  3. take out a small loan and see if you can find a co-signer... and buy a cheap used car first, get a visa/mc and build up your credit.....
