Are there any reason I should vote for Obama?

I am an independent. I am a free trader and a socially liberal. I usually lean Democrats, but this year Obama's protectionism rhetoric and the media bias annoy me to the point that I decide to vote John McCain. Obama's grand scheme lacks one crucial promise. He never once said he would go after George Bush and d**k Cheney, holding them accountable for their misconducts. The Democrat Congress really disappointed me. For two years, they have not done anything different. Why should I believe that Obama can deliver any change when it is John McCain that surprised me with his out-of-the-box approach? Convince me.

  1. Let's see...you're expecting a newly-elected president to go after an outgoing president?  That's your rationale for not voting for Obama?

Puh-leeze.  Everybody gets pardoned or spared prosecution after they leave the Oval Office.  It's a professional courtesy.

If nobody's bothered to impeach Bush while he's been in office, why would somebody try to prosecute him at the end of two terms?  Never mind whether he's right or wrong--that point is moot.  He won't be held accountable because it just doesn't happen.

And what does Obama have to do with the entire Democrat Congress?  How, as a single senator, would he control all of Congress?  Even as a president, he couldn't control Congress, so it's odd that you seem to expect him to have been doing something to ease your disappointment this whole time.  What, exactly, could he have done?

And what does Obama have to do with the "media bias"?  Are you implying that he controls the media somehow?  You don't like the media, so you're voting for the guy they're meaner to?  I don't get that point at all.

Your reasons for not voting for Obama are illogical.  Put on your thinking cap and pick a candidate based on some facts or something.

  2. It really depends on what you value as the most important thing a president should fight for.  I am an Obama supporter, but the truth of the matter is that this is your vote & above everything else, you should be armed with the truth.  I would check out resources outside this country (i.e. The Economist, www.theworld.org, BBC news, etc.) because their view of the American political process is a little less biased than any American print resource.

As far as Mr. Obama going after Mr. Bush & Mr. Cheney (probably for war crimes), although the circumstances are different surrounding a presidential pardon, during the time after Nixon was about to be impeached, Gerald Ford pardoned Nixon.  Unfortunately, his political career suffered for that.  My point is that new leaders (and/or potential leaders) should consider the implications of legal action being made on former leaders, mostly because it opens the door to they themselves being considered for legal action as well.  It's strange, but it's something that has happened for years.  Don't get me wrong, I don't want them in office any longer than they need to be ( in my opinion they should have been out four years ago).

I can't speak on the democratic congress doing or not doing anything, seeing as they only have a slight majority in Congress, and the whole political process seems to be mired in a bunch of talk & no action.  For the impartial take on that, I would check out the congressional record from www.house.gov, and the THOMAS records, which is straight facts on what the congress (both house and senate) did and did not do, at http://thomas.loc.gov .  I personally trust websites ending with .org and .gov to get my information straight.  Good luck with your choice.

For me, I was seriously wondering what the heck Mr. Obama meant by change, until I heard his acceptance speech.  Unfortunately, his speech has been overshadowed by the nomination of Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK), for the running mate of Senator McCain.  I would check out his speech to look at the policy reforms that represent change that he would work hard to implement.  To me he has a track record of working hard in a hard area to work in, and making a difference.  To get a good understanding of what the Chicago political machine is like and the extreme racism that occurs and somtimes simmers there, then check out www.thislife.org, the story called Harold under their favorite programs page.  He was Chicago's first black mayor, and Barack Obama was inspired by this man and the work that he did to change the political scene in Chicago.

In my honest opinion, I don't want another Republican in office because after 8 years of the Bush administration, we are funding a war that we simply cannot afford (in both money to Halliburton and other Bush/Cheney cronies and in the lives of soldiers that are lost through death, lack of mental health programs, and other benefits).

Hope this helps you vote.  Best of luck.

  3. At the risk of sounding bias ( I am a staunch Democrat).  The only thing that I can say is review what the last eight years have given you.  What do you think our relationship with the world is today as opposed to what they were 12 years ago.  This administration has run this country into ruin.  They can say that things are working and going well, but isn't that a bit delusional.  People are suffering in this country.  These are just a few examples, losing jobs, homes, credit backgrounds as well as relatives and friends to war that didn't have to happen.  Personally, I have seen peoples jobs effected by outsourcing of jobs to overseas companies.  I  do believe Obama said in his speech he would immediately address these types of issues.  But people want to accuse him of being hollywood, glammed out and out of touch with the issues.  But in reality this man has been forward and out spoken on many issue that concern helping get this country back on its feet.  I don't know about you, but I could care less if he is green orange or gold with red stripes.  He could be young or old, rich or poor.  If he's going to do a good job.  Then he's got my vote.  As far as a republican choice he has proven that he has a reckless and irresponsible in his decision making(prime example: vp pick).  Isn't that what we have in there now.  Think about it.  Hmm.  But this is just my opinion and everyone is entitled theirs.  Hope this convinces you to make a conscientious decision you can live with.

  4. Tom T said it all, how could you possibly want the GOP to continue ruining our country?

  5. Only if you want to see your beautiful country go down the tubes. Bush was bad enough but an Obama presidency would be 10 times worse. Just use your common sense.

  6. If you are independent, a free trader and have a social conscience, then your vote should be for McCain...the reason being is that he has proven himself..he has experience and is willing to cross party lines to get things accomplished. He has convictions and a moral code..Obama if he gets elected, it will be business as usual.  He is a radical/left wing liberal.  His past and his friends and associates prove that point...His background is very sketchy and I read an article that he may not even be a naturalized citizen of the U.S., and I feel that he was promoted by sinister forces that want a "token black" that can be controlled to put into place Socialism in the United States.  There is a difference between a radical left wing liberal and a social liberal.  Obama wants to rule your life from cradle to grave, and you being a free thinker should'nt want to give your thoughts up, and I think we will lose many of the freedoms we take for granted if he is elected.  The congress run by Pelosi and her cohorts are radical/left wing also and they did absolutely nothing during their two years.  So I hope I have convinced you to vote McCain/Palin 08...

  7. If you make under $226K a year I can give you over 2,000 reasons.

  8. No change in Washington

  9. Yes. You like to pay higher taxes.  You believe that people who are successful and have worked hard need to pay more into Social Security to pay for people who have never contributed a dime into it.You want a ton a new government programs. You like socialized medicine. You hold "big oil" responsible for the country's economic problems. You believe that drilling for more oil is a bad idea. You believe that should your unmarried 17 year old daughter become pregnant, you are not going to hold her to the "mistake." You believe that a presidential candidate needs no foreign policy experience. You think it is OK for the presidential candidate's wife not to be proud of her country.

  10. It depends on what you stand for.  McCain and/or Palin are anti-choice, anti-enviroment, anti-middle class, think the economy is ok, anti-arts, space exploration programs, supports death penalty, supports school vouchers, ect.

Research what they support and vote accordingly.

Further, the Democratic Congress had little control over the past 2 years.  The Republicans have filibustered more this sesion than any other prior and therefore have been able to get little done that the Republicans have not wanted done.

  11. Afraid I can't convince you. I believe you made the right choice.

Unless you are for giving illegal aliens driver's licenses and social security; partial birth and other later-term abortions; higher taxes; socialism; Marxism; deception; etc.

The Dem Congress did do something different...we got CHANGE...higher gas prices, lower DOW, recession, etc.

    KEEP THE CHANGE

    I'LL TAKE IMPROVEMENT

  12. Congress cannot go after GW Bush because they VOTED to go into Iraq. Obama's platform lacks two crucial components.....specific tasks and a measurement for success.

From an economic standpoint, windfall profits taxes sound great. They don't stand up to scrutiny or history. Where do corporate profits come from? Consumers of the corporations products and services. Where does the money to pay the corporate taxes come from? The consumers of those products and services. Who is invested in these corporations? Mainly investment groups such as retirement fund managers. The workers of America have their pensions invested so they can get a better rate of return on the money.

Last, were you around for the 4 years of Jimmy Carter? OMG, please let's not go back to 12% unemployment, 21% interest rates, and an economy in the tank.

  13. YES Just think about the past 8 years. Also, quite frankly you are expecting Obama to do something that contradicts who he is. He does not delight in going after anybody. He is not here to condemn. He is here to bring our country together. He is not going to accomplish this by talking about how just plain unintelligent Bush and McCain seem to be. To me, it's like  why point out the obvious? It just makes him look mean, and like he doesn't mind doing battle with an unarmed opponent.

He has openly talked about what they did wrong and where their judgment falls short. He has talked about congress wasting our money, and about his speech in 2002 about why Iraq was not posing an eminent threat. Now 400,000 + lives and trillion dollars  later, here we are.

  14. put your country first.

    rally for romney.

    kick palin out.

  15. He is not a republican, that in it's self should be enough.

  16. Why not vote Obama, exactly, he has taken control of the senate I mean I am from Illinois and have spoken with him and are other senator d**k Durban, and d**k Durban agrees that Obama runs a majority of the senate and has help pass laws to promote education, stop big business tax breaks unless they stop deporting jobs, and remove a major portion of the Iraqi and Afghan troop deployment over a couple of years. HE also plans to destroy useless programs of this country and resupply that money into creation of government jobs. He will also challenge China on money freud (China lied about the value of their dollar in lending to the United States about eight years ago.

  17. The political reason is, you don't want to be remembered as the President who sent the out going President to jail.    This is a very unpopular thing to do during the first term in the office.   This will come back and bite you/party when running for 2nd term.   By the 2nd term it is old news, then again you do not want your party to be unpopular for the new candidate.

As for your Question, most American’s want George Bush and d**k Cheney, to be held for their misconducts.    When it comes for punishment (Sentence) American’s are most forgiving people.    Even if Bush and d**k Cheney are found guilty, the new President (Obama/McCain) will commute the sentence the very next day; because, most American’s really do not want to see an Ex-President in jail, because it puts American pride in jeopardy.   It goes the same for the Vice-President.   In short, we may be asking for something which we may let go of it.     In long run, it will hurt the political party which put an Ex-President in jail for a very long time.

Dammed if you did; Dammed if you don’t.   Welcome to politics.

Ps: If Bush and d**k Cheney were arrested and found guilty while travelling aboard in an international court.   Guess what will happen to that country or the countries involved in.
