A hamster should be OK but what about a horse for example?

Or maybe a number of large dogs

  1. Yup, all comes under Control of Pollution Act 1974 and the Environment Protection Act 1990.

  2. I am sure every area has their own bylaws about burying pets, pets the size of hamsters and other small animals won't matter too much, but a large dog might be another matter, the reason being the next tenant or owner of your house, might dig up the remains, and get really upset. I suppose if you dug a grave for your pet really deep so as it would not be discovered during digging over the garden allowing for some keen gardener double digging (two spade depths ) from digging your pets bones, you might just get away with it, a horse well would you like to dig a hole big enough to hide it's bones wow you would require a JCB digger for that kind of job, yes I know you said for example. but why not get your pet cremated and then there would be no problem, in the case of a dog you could just spread it's ashes somewhere it used to run or near a river bank if you dog liked water and swimming. If you are determined to bury your pet in the garden put in a good marker, so as if there another tenant to you house they might not dig that part of the garden, and indeed use the ground to bury there own pets.I am sorry if you have lost a pet. Alex
