  1. The toughest job you'll ever love!  There is an excellent Web site about the requirements and all about the Peace Corps.  I have listed it below.  Also I went ahead and wrote down the basic requirements.  Good luck!

*There is no upper age limit. In fact, the oldest Volunteer ever to serve in the Peace Corps was 86.

*You don't have to know another language.

*Having a four-year college degree by the time you're ready to leave for the Peace Corps will help your chances of acceptance. But it isn't absolutely necessary, and for some programs work experience, relevant skills, and/or a community college degree can qualify you.

  2. You have to be at least 18 and a US Citizen. The biggest requirement is that you have a skill a host country has asked for. If you don't, you won't get an invitation. 92% of all PCVs have a 4-year degree. The rest have 10 - 50 years of experience.

They had a 19-year old PCV once. He had worked on his family's farm from the time he was 8, and had been president of the county 4-H three years running in high school. That 18-years old limit is in theory. In practice, most are over 22.

You can read about my time as a PCV many years ago, and see my answers to some of the questions about the Peace Corps that come up here every couple of weeks, if you like:

The page "Peace Corps Links" has a link to the Returned PCV web ring.
