  1. Love dogs, have tons of patience, don't be afraid of getting bitten and scratched, have tons of patience, know how to talk to people and make them feel comfortable with leaving their dog with you, have tons of patience...

It's challenging. It's rewarding. It can be emotional. It can make you cry. It can make you extremely happy. It's hairy. It's smelly. You'll get pooped on, peed on, puked on, and have anal glands sprayed at you/on you/in your face...

I'm not even a dog groomer yet. My mom has been grooming for over 17 years, I've been working with her for 2. I am slowly learning, when time permits. It's a great job, if you have it in you. I suggest getting a job as a bather for a while to see what you're in for. If you feel like it's something you really want to do, and you think you'll be good at it, you can go to grooming school, or you can become a sort of apprentice. You actually don't need a license to be a groomer.

  2. don't you think your flippers are to large to groom dogs?

I am not sure about that...

but if you call your local department at city hall for licencing, they will most likely be able to tell you what you want to know..

plus a love of animals is a plus..I know you love animals......for SURE....

    smile

you can do it.......it is a lot of work you know, but very rewarding emotionally ( when you see the faces of their owners light up) and financially..

you do know a little of schooling would help if your going to cut their fur or hair....( go to you local library and look for books and or CDs on the subject and you can get some ideas from them...)

    good luck

    smile

  3. Some states require certification, check with yours. Also you must know exactly what you are doing or you could severely and permanently injure a dog. Go to a pet grooming school because there is so much to know. everything from grooming techniques to parasite recognition and treatment. Its not just a job its a career.

  4. yeah if you can you should go to a shcool if you have a friend in the business you should get them to hook you up its always better when you know the person good luck
