Are there any rules of thumb about when to change guitar strings?

  1. about every 6 months you should change them.

    if they kind of look discolored, change the strings.

    don't change the strings every time one of them break, but if the strings break too often, you should change all the strings.

    if your guitar sounds worse than it did when you got it, change the strings.

    I like GHS boomers, but you can use any string you like.

    Acoustic strings should be a little thicker than electric ones.

  4. Top of the line strings need to be changed about every 200 hours of use. Sooner if they start stretching again.

    Average strings need to be changed when they stretch while playing, when they discolor, frey or when they start breaking.

    I likke to change the entire set. One string at a time. but all the same day.
