I'm looking for a site that sells secular homeschooling materials for my 7th grader that will not put a big dent in my wallet or an on-line curriculum company

  1. k12 would be your best bet!!!

  2. We used Global Student Network and EdAnywhere for that grade level. Both are distance education programs. I've also used Calvert, and of course, I supplement :)

  3. There are plenty of resources at the library.  I buy a lot of used text books through amazon, they tend to be relatively cheap.

If you want a packaged curriculum, Calvert has one for 7th grade.

Of course you can always try unschooling and just pick up materials here and there.  That's what I do.

    Good luck :D

    Language Arts:

The Hewitt courses I recommended yesterday are not religious.

Math:  I linked to this yesterday, it is not religious.

    K12 is also good.

  5. K12's middle school courses are great.  It is a bit pricey but so worth it, IMO.  You could just do a couple of their classes.  History and Art are my favorites in middle school.

The classes are a mix of online and offline activities.   All the planning and progress is tracked online, which is so nice!  There are online interactive timelines, games, and more.

  6. Use the library!  It is your number one source of materials.  Get your child involved in outside activities, including volunteer opportunities.

We only use one formal curriculum - it is a math program called Math U See, which is quite inexpensive.http://www.mathusee.com/  Although it has a slight Christian overtone (you'll see more about Christmas and Easter than any other holiday,) it's not overt, so we find it quite acceptable.

Your best bet for formal materials is to buy them on EBay.

    Be well.

  7. We use used public school textbooks.  It helps that we work in the school and constantly find extra resources that teachers throw away.  You can, however, find them at used book stores.
