Yes there is Sharks in Cancun. You could also swim with Sharks in Isla Mujeres. But these sharks that you swim with dont bite.

It's very, very, VERY unlikely, but possible. Cancun is surrounded by the world's second largest coral reef, and the sharks aren't usually able to get around the reef (nor would they want to). The reef is miles out, so water is safe for swimming. And the water is clear, so the possibility of encountering a shark are even lower since they like murky water.

On the other hand, if you want to see a shark, I suggest going to Isla Mujeres, where they have a "swim with a friendly shark" area. It's very fun!

Well anywhere you have ocean....you will have sharks.  I have never seen or heard of any sharks being in the tourist areas, but there is always a possibility.  I don't want to mislead you to think there is no possible chance of there being a shark.......it is always wise to exercise caution when in the ocean.  Just stay in the areas where you see people swimming and you should be totally safe.  As I said....I live here....I swim here almost every day....I have never heard of any shark attacks in the tourist area.  Just enjoy Cancun!!!  You cannot live your life in fear of what might be.....just be smart and have fun.

There's always a chance in Cancun - or any tropical location where sharks appear. But the chances are very slim - you're more likely to suffer from sunburn, a hangover, or Montezuma's revenge than from a shark!
