Are there any simple DVRs?

I want to know if theres a dvr that only records what you tell it to, and you do not have to pay a fee to use. All I want is something to record my shows. One at a time is fine. I do not need anything fancy or feature-rich.

  1. Get a VCR.

But - the secret power of a DVR is the electronic program guide.  There is a large staff of people keeping that guide working each day and keeping things up to date.

    And this is NOT free.

But - getting a DVR from your cable service or Sat service - is usually cheaper.  I'm paying something like $24 for 'basic' cable, but it comes with a HD DVR and about 7 channels in high def.

  2. get a TIVO or use dish network and you get discount on dvr

  3. Walmart has three models that you program like you would a VCR. They also have DVD recorders built in so they may be listed under DVD recorders.

No fees but no fancy program guide either.

The models will have things like 80GB or 160GB in their descriptions. That's the size of the hard drive in the recorder.

  4. no
