a friend hit one of his set in along with the 8 ball (he called it and got the correct pocket) and still had one of his set on the table. He said he won because he called the shot. I say no because one of his set were left on the table. Can you clarify?

  1. If you are talking about the game of 8-ball, then the player has to pocket all of his balls(stripes or solids) before he can pocket the 8-ball.  Once all of his object balls are pocketed he can then shoot the 8-ball.  The shot on the 8-ball has to be a separate shot.  A player cannot pocket the 8-ball along with another their object balls.  If he does he loses the game.

  2. It depends on the rules you are playing.  Bar rules differ than other organized league rules.  In that situation it was a total loss in my opinion no matter what way you look at it.  He must be confused with Nineball.  Where if an object ball is hit first and the Nineball is sunk it is considered a win.  Tell your friend nice shot but hes an idiot.

  3. I hope you didnt pay him or that he tries that anywhere else thats what dumpsters are made for

  4. The WPA (world-standardized) rules state:

    3.8 Losing the Rack

    The shooter loses if

    ...

    (b) pockets the eight ball before his group is cleared

So he loses.  Otherwise, why not just shoot for the 8 ball all the time?  The 8 ball has to be the last shot and must by shot by itself.

  5. I know of no situation where this would not be considered a loss of game.  The 8 ball always has to be your last ball and a separate shot and the pocket must be called.

  6. NO, NO, NO. 8 ball has to be the last pot, and it has to be singly pot.  And called.  Only time you win with the * ball not being the last pot is when it's sunk on the break, and the white still stands on the table.
