  1. Snakes DO NOT need a heat lamp as long as you can keep the ambient background temps up to what they need to be. I keep my snakes in a room with a space heater and the room is kept at 85 degrees 24/7/365 and they all have UTHs that are heated to 93 degrees. No heat lamps at all.

It is a commonly held position among most snake breeders, owners, and experts that snakes have no need of ultra-violet light. Some lizards need it, but snakes don't.

  2. I only use a heat mat for my corn snakes and they are perfectly healthy.

  3. I use only heat mats on both my ball pythons and my red tail boa.  And for my snakes that need heat lamps, I put the tanks together to share the light.  I have had great success.   Or if you want bye a ribbon snake,  no mat or lamp required, just a heated home.

  4. most snakes dont need a heat lamp but it is better for them

  5. Most snakes need an under tank heat mat to provide belly heat for digestion.  A heat lamp is rarely needed.  Just research the species and see what their natural behavior is.  Corns and ball pythons do fine with heat mats.  Nocturnal species do not need overhead bulbs.

  6. pretty much all snakes can use a heat mat with no heat lamp you will need a light of some sort if you get an animal that needs uv rays... but there is tons that dont need it, ball pythons, cornsnakes, california kingsnakes, ect.

  7. kingsnakes, cornsnake, milksnake

  8. western hog-nose should be okay.
