Are there any spiders in the UK that bite humans?

I was cleaning out my garage with a sweeping brush (removing cobwebs) and got a nasty bite on my hand. Only noticed it when I finished. The garage was full of what I call harvestment: Long leggeded light brown spiders the size and shape of a crane fly with body lengths of about 12mm. One had about 20 yellow eggs under its abdomen. What are they and were they the cause of the bite?

  1. They don't usually bite, but if you aggravate them enough they will.  They would rather run, even though they are quite awkward about it with those long legs.  They are quite common though, I have them all over my house.

In episode 13 of Mythbusters, Adam purposely was bitten by one to prove that they *can* bite.  He reported a short burning feeling.

Also, there is a clear difference between harvestman and cellar spiders.  Harvestman are arachnids, but not spiders.  From everything I have heard they can not bite, and if they did it wouldn't do much, because they have no venom.

Harvestman appear to have one body segment, the cephalothorax and abdomen are fused into one.  The cellar spider (pholcid) clearly has two.
