going back to school? I have been at home for 2 yrs with my 2 daughters, now 4 and 2. I am going back to school in the fall and am looking for scholorships or grants to help out. I already have one grant that is paying for my classes but I was looking for some additional money to help pay for daycare. Any suggestions? I live in Illinois if that helps.

  1. I am taking online classes. I had my daughter during the second week of my first class. FAFSA and loans helped me to be able to work towards earning my degree. I would take classes on campus but that is a bit difficult with a 5month old.

Just want to brag a little.... Even with taking care of the baby and doing all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, bills EVERYTHING.... I made the Dean's List!!!

SO again.... FAFSA.. and check out Sallie Mae for a loan.

  2. You should be able to financially support your schooling and care of the children. Maybe now is not the right time to return to school if you can't afford this w/o help.

  3. First of all, good for you!!!

You should be able to supplement any grants or scholarships you receive with loans - and yes for living expenses including child care!  Fill out the FAFSA..

    And try this for loans...

    1.  Subsidized Stafford loans (federal)

    2.  Unsubsidized Stafford loans (federal)

    3. Private loans to pick up the rest.

A financial aid officer at a school you are applying to can help you with the logistics - don't hesitate to call.

  4. I'm a stay at home dad and I was lucky enough to have a stay at home mom for a sister when I went back. We traded kids and both went to school on opposing "shifts". I completed most the end of my degree online through Ivy tech, which I'm sure you have there too. If you network, and have a fellow at home mommy you trust, you may work out a deal to watch each others kids while the other goes to school.

But, if thats not an option, some colleges offer daycare on site at reduced rates for students that I think you can get a form of pell for. I know ISU and Ivy Tech both offer somethign like that. Call the financial aid office and find out, theres always something they'll try to do to get your money.

An education is great for at home parents. i can write my ticket right now from al lthe schooling I've had even with 8 years off. I threw my resume out a few months ago just to see and got an offer on the phoen without an interview at wages higher than when I stopped working years ago. You want a degree, it'll help later.

  5. I am a stay at home mom nd attend school full time (my babies are 4 and 3), but the only Grants I can think of are the ones the school offers. And the FAFSA of course. As for daycare, no clue, thats why my hubby works nights so he can stay wth them during the day. Good Luck though!
