I don't think I've seen an operable steam locomotive. I've seen plenty of diesel and electric locomotives, but I've only seen steam locomotives at trains museums and places similar to that.

  4. steam locomotives are still being used in many parts of the world and i believe still being manufactured. Where there is a pentiful coal supply,,steam locomotives are not influenced by oil costs. They are very efficient and long lasting,,and powerful.

  5. There's one that runs from Williams, AZ, to the Grand Canyon, and I'm certain that there are others throughout the country, e.g., Colorado.

  6. the only ones i know belong to small places that only do like an hr or 3 trip at the most..i have seen them in small towns and in the mountians and such

  7. go to google and type in "steam dreams" i promise you will be amazed!

  8. Actually there is a new Locomotive  in the U.K...Between bristol and another town.  It is the first Steam locomotive built in 60 years,  And it is for revenue service

  9. We have two on the Union Pacific that are still in active service. The UP 844 and the UP3985 http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/excurs/index...

By the way the UP is the only Class 1 railroad in the USA that still operates steam engines.

  10. There is one in West Virginia called the Cass Scenic Railroad

  11. you can ride one at the franklin institute in philadelphia, but it only travels about 10 feet

  12. In the United Kingdom (birthplace of rail don't you know!), steam locomotives still operate on main lines, but only for charter and special services. For example, the "Scarborough Spa Express" service operates with a variety of steam locomotives from York - Harrogate - Leeds - York - Scarborough and back on weekdays during the summer months. There are many other examples.

Outside of main lines (i.e. on preserved railways and narrow gauge railways run by enthusiasts, as opposed to the main rail network), there are absolutely countless examples.
