Are there any substitutes for laundry detergent?

I started a load of laundry, but then realized I have no more detergent!

But, I still have two more loads left...

Is there anything I can do besides watering it down?

Are there any substitutes?

  1. use some baking soda in your wash cycle and white vinegar in your rinse cycle.  It's not as good as detergent but will clean and deodorize your laundry.

  2. If you have a front-loading washer, do NOT use the dishwashing liquid -- if can lock up your machine with the foam.  You can do a lot of damage to it.

If you have some machine dishwashing detergent, smell it (or read the label) to determine if it has bleach in it.  If so, it will be OK to use for whites, but not colors.  If it doesn't have chlorine bleach, it will be fine to use -- use about the same amount as you would for your laundry (not the small amount they will recommend for use in your dishwasher).

  3. Baking soda- Just about one tablespoon per load size, so 1 for small, 2 for medium, and 3 for large... Dilute in the water BEFORE adding clothes...

    Use less on dark's...

  4. shampoo and or dish soap work just as good!!   watch your portions though!!

  5. Don't use household cleaners with bleach or ammonia they are too harsh and can discolor the clothes.

    Dishsoap will get really foamy.

one cup of baking soda will help, it removes odors, and is gentle enough

The best thing is laundry soap, its designed to remove staqins and sweat, and freshen the fabric.

  6. Use a tablespoon full of dish detergent.=)
