I read that cinnamon is very high in antioxidants, and I would like to find new ways to incorporate it into my diet.

  1. Put some on your cereal or toast for breakfast, in milk or tea (hot or cold)

    Ham, pork chops, or sausage are all good with cinnamon and brown sugar, as are yams (sweet potatoes)

    There are many other foods high in antioxidants,  look around so you can benefit from a variety, instead of focusing all your energies on one food.

  2. Cinnamon has been used to enhance the flavor of foods for centuries. Try it on grilled chicken, a slow cooked roast and as another poster noted on sweet potatoes and yams. It also is a great addition to grilled onions and carrots. If you go to allrecipes.com or recipezarr.com and search by ingredient you will be pleasantly surprised by the uses for cinnamon. Good Luck!

  3. I've made an amazing chili recipe with cinnamon and got rave reviews on it.  This is very similar to the one I made many years ago but I don't remember using vinegar in it and I didn't use a crock pot... just low heat and slow cooking on the stovetop.

    Ingredients:

        * 2 1/2 pounds lean ground beef

        * 2 cans (8 ounces each) tomato sauce, or 1 large can (15 ounces)

        * 1 can (5 ounces) tomato paste

        * 4 tablespoons chili powder

        * 1 1/2 to 2 teaspoons cinnamon

        * 1/2 tsp. allspice

        * 1 1/4 tsp. salt

        * 1 tbsp. vinegar

        * 1 tsp. black pepper

        * 1/4 tsp. garlic powder

        * 1 tsp. onion salt

        * 2 tsp. steak sauce

        * 1 cup water

    Preparation:

    Brown beef lightly. Put all ingredients in crock and mix together well. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. If necessary, add more water.

    Traditionally served with spaghetti and topped with cheese. Makes 4 to 6 servings.

  4. For me, Cinnamon rocks with Pork, Chicken, Turkey and Duck. For the vegetable side of things, I would pick carrots, acorn or butternut squash, snow peas, parsnips, or cauliflower.  This is only what I've experienced though from my limited time in the field, but I'm sure there are thousands of other applications out there.  Happy experimenting and healthy eating to you!

  5. The Greek dish Pastitsio is like a meat lasagna and seasoned with cinnamon.
