I bought a laptop on eBay, and I was wondering if there are any taxes to pay in QUEBEC if it's marked as a gift?

It's coming from the United States, and its value is 700 US Dollars.

  1. Oh yes you will.  Canada doesn't buy the mark-it-as-a-gift tax dodge.  So you will pay the tax on the amount above $60.  Hopefully your seller included the eBay auction page so that customs doesn't get the brilliant idea that's worth even more.

(Your US seller is also committing a felony by lying on a government form.)

  2. Don't mark it as a gift - just carry it in - and leave it behind.

  3. Please note that Prophet is advocating an illegal act, which can result in fines, jail time, and PERMANENT hassles at the border.  Is that worth the GST and duty (if any) on the laptop?
