  1. Third world has nothing to do with wealth or lack of it.  It has to do with the political and economic setup of a country.

First world is democracy/capitalism.  Every state in the US uses this, so they are all first world.  Mexico, despite being very poor, is a democratic and capitalist society and is still first world.

Second world is Communism.  China, Cuba, Venezuela, etc.  Some are poor, while China is something like 4th in economy now; but they are all second world.

Third world is everyone else.  While Mexico is again first world; the much, much richer country of Saudi Arabia is still considered 3rd world.

If your question is asking if there are any poor states in the US; many would consider South Carolina and Mississippi to be extremely poor states.  But they don't reach the poverty level of what most would consider 3rd world country poor; countries like Haiti and most of Africa.

  2. not entire states but there are some places in the US you would think are third world

  3. No. Third World is a name given to nations that are generally considered to be underdeveloped economically during the 20th century. The name Third World arose during the Cold War to refer to nations that did not belong to the First and Second WorldsWhile there is debate over the appropriateness of the term, and no alternative is without detractors, the term is one embraced by many Third World nations themselves, particularly in the Non-Aligned Movement.

It would be ridiculous to think that the U.S. would let a single state be underdeveloped while the rest aren't.
