  1. A few tips that help most people:

    (1) Strengthen your core muscles -- esp. upper and lower abs

    (2) Arm recovery relaxed as possible -- swing arms close above water, thumbs down

    (3) Breathe early -- head should be back down by the time arms are 1/2 way through recovery

    (4) Breathe low -- don't lift up; push chin forward

    (5) Breathe 2-up/1-down instead of every stroke

  2. if you have the timing down, you probably just need to work on your strength.  try breathing every other stroke, it will stabilize your swim.

  3. Without seeing your stroke there isn't much advice that I can give you.  If you're on a team, ask your coach what you need to do to improve your fly.  If you're not on a team, consider joining one as good coaching is the easiest way to improve for most people.

I also recommend you check out http://www.goswim.tv  They have a ton of good drills, videos, tips, etc that can help you improve.  Good luck.

  4. make your self relax for 1 week then learn to soften your body i mean move like a worm even more than a worm amoeba that is and if this doesnt effect try to ask your coach

  5. it's all about building induance. let your kis start from right under your diaifram and let it slide down your legs and to your feet. the most poweful part of the stroke is the middle. basicaly don't pop too far out of the water and just practace. the more the better. to really fine tune your stroke i recomend getting a front loading snokle and a mono fin to help with your workouts and building your body for the stroke.

  6. Well, first of all you must keep it in mind that this very style in swimming is taking utmost test of swimmer's stamina and strength to hold the breath while in motion. However, since you are very curious to have your say with butterfly, let me suggest you couple of tips.

    1. Once you dive into pool, just don't start "butterflying". Keep your cool and hold your breath as much as you can. Once starting the stroke, hold your legs together and extend your arms above your head....this is for starter.

    2. Don't let your hands come forward or backward in different time. They must go and come in simulteneous manner, so that you can easily keep your mouth above the water level to heave comfortably....(of course in butterfly "comfort" is not always possible.)

    3. Lift your head up and breathe as you quickly pull out the head from water and make sure your legs keep kicking (splashing) the back water in speedy movement. This will help your entire body to rush forward like an arrow.

    4. Just feel like dolphin and allow your hips and knees to work in one motion.

Afterall your physical strength that what counts most in this style....its consuming a lot...but one of the finest workout and exercise to enjoy.

  7. There is a wonderful book you should get if you are a serious swimmer and really want to get better. "Swim Fast" there are secondary books that go even further "Swim Faster" and "Swimming even Faster". They are by a leading NCAA coach. His name starts with "M" but I can't remember it right now. "Marchino?" or something like that. The book helps me a lot. I use it for myself and coach my team out of it.

  8. my coach tells us all the time that we need to explode in the back (by the hips) and let our arms relax over the top of the water.  dont force your arms/ lift them, or u will get a lot more tired really fast. good luck!!
