  1. Well, besides walking, riding a bike or  using something that dosen't use gas here's some things that may help.

Take public transportation (i.e. buses) or car pool.  Otherwise, if you take your own car, make sure your tires are inflated properly, if they aren't, then you acutally lose gas mileage.  If you are traveling at highway speeds, remember, any speed over 55 you acutally lose on average of 2 miles per gallon of gas so you are spending more for each gallon of gas.  If traveling for long distances, only put as much gas in your car as you would need.  If you need to stop more often, that is acutally better.  The more gas in your tank, weighs your car down more and your engine has to work harder, in turn, using more gas.  If you don't need to, don't use the air conditioner in the car, it DOES use more gas when on.  Turn on the fan/vent in your car to bring in cooler air into the car.  Use the cruise control in your car when you are on the highway or long trips where you are not stopping and going a lot.  You acutally save on gas!  I found that out myself.  I used cruise control on a long trip and saved quite a bit of gas and did not use the air conditioner in my car!  I saved almost a 1/4 of a tank of gas on a long trip!  That's a lot of money saved right there.

Hope this helps out some!  Also, make sure that your air filter is clean and your car tires are in good shape!  This also will help to save some gas.

  2. Don't wait to buy gas until the weekend - typically the cheapest days to buy gas is on Tuesday.  Always make sure you get gas well before major holidays, because it always spikes up around holidays like the 4th of July, Memorial Day, Labor day, etc.

  3. Best way to save gas is to walk or ride a bicycle when possible.

While I do not condone tailgating, many tips on improving your gas mileage is to look up "hypermiling" or "hypermilers" on the internet or google.

Improving your driving techniques will increase your mpg.  It is easier to increase your mpg when the vehicle is equipped with a manual transmission.

As mentioned above, I inflate my tires to the max listed on the sidewall.  I've done this for the last 30 plus years.

PS, I had a car equipped with a vacuum gage years ago.  Made driving steady very easy to do.  Second URL.

  4. don't go anywhere

  5. ride sharing, buses, motorcycles, bikes, skate boards.

  6. dont go over 70 mph

pump gas early morning or at night (it evaporates with heat)

    try puting windows down

  7. Some small ways are to stay between 55-65 mph

Turn off radio / air before turning your car off.

When possible drive with your windows close  especially on the highway

    Don't use AC

Take unused things out of your trunk to lighten the car

  8. 1. Get a toyota prius, (48 mpg), it may be expensive at first but it all pays off.

    2. If a place is close and its a nice day, ride your bike or walk.

    3. Ride public transportation: (buses, trains, etc,)

  9. do not drive over 60 mph.

do not zig, zag from lane to lane

shut the engine off if you are stuck in traffic and cannot move

  10. Hyper inflate your tires over the manufacturer's suggested limit (bumpy ride, but less drag).

Knock off your rear-view mirrors and any spoilers that protrude out and cause drag.

Follow EXTREMELY CLOSE behind semi trucks whenever possible.  Sure, they might slam on the breaks and you'd die, but at least you saved that $0.05 cents by staying in their vortex with no air resistance.
