I'm going through training that requires you to float on the surface face down, every time I take a breath I start sinking like a rock, I can't use my hands, and kicking doesn't seem to help.

  1. Keep your lungs full of air as much as possible. Quickly push out air and take deep breath and hold it. Repeat. Thats the technique we use in the military.

  2. Take a deep breath in, float face down, and don't breath out or move after that.

  3. Gain about 50 pounds of body fat.  Fat floats.

  4. It helps to move the position of your arms. If you raise them above your head ( but keep them in the water) this can help you float, or you can try arching your back( or sticking your butt up, which in turn will arch your back). When you are holding your breathe, elt your air out slowly in little breathes( you will blow out little bursts of bubbles at a time) this will keep the air in your body longer rather than letting all your air out right away.

  5. lay very still and take in air. I don't know why that wouldn't work for you. either that or attach floaties to your arms and feet.

  6. Relax, it spreads out your muscles.  Keep air in your lungs - they work like balloons.

  7. Don't breathe out fully, when you are taking a new breath.

  8. Fill your lungs with alot of air. This will help. The air is less denser than air, therefore it will try and go to the ceiling.
