Are there any tunnels beneath Venice ?

Is it possible such a thing . Is it just a myth or can it be fact...?

  1. Not that I know of. Been there didn't see or here of any. They would be a bit wet. It is a city of canals not roads ( you have to go everywhere by some sort of water craft) so no one would have had the technology at the time Venice was built to build water free tunnels under the city.


  2. The mayor of Venice floated a proposal to build a subway from the airport to the island of Venice some years ago (see: http://www.iht.com/articles/2005/02/23/n... http://veniceblog.typepad.com/veniceblog...  It doesn't exist today and I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for such a thing.
