Are there any volcanoes you can safely visit and watch erupting?

If possible. I'd like to see avolcano but don't really see the point if it isn't erupting. I though of mount etna, but you'd have to wait until it erupted then quickly book a flight- are there any that regularly erupt?

  1. "Safe" and "erupting volcano" don't go together as far as I know. I may be wrong...

  2. Well Hawaii is your best bet because there are constant "eruptions" going on there....it isnt the explosive eruptions your thinking of probably but still its considered an eruption

Any other eruption and you wouldnt be able to get within a mile of it or else you would be in serious danger.  Also you dont have much notice for much eruptions but Hawaii like i said is constantly erupting

  3. I would go to Stromboli in the med, between the Italian mainland and Sicily. You are no longer alowed to go all the way to the summit, and you must go in one of the organised groups (you can book them on the island itself)

There is a lot of stuff on Stromboli online http://www.swisseduc.ch/stromboli/

because stromboli erupts littl but often then it is reasonably safe to watch, and a pretty good chance you will see an eruption or two.

Another good place ( you could combine the two on a little tour) is to go to solfatara near Naples http://www.solfatara.it/camping/en/index... Day trips to Etna and Herculanum as well as Monte Nuvo and Lake Avernus. Get the ferry or hydrofoil to Stromboli, maybe to Vulcano too, Fery to Sicily, then on for  few days around Etna. You cant officially visit the summit of Etna as it is too dangerous, but you can get a fair way up and see the volcanic plume (take great care, read the safety notes on the stromboli online site)

    Enjoy your volcanoes :-))

  4. No the lava is way to hot you could watch it on tv though. here are some pictures i got you. You could if you had special gear on also.

  5. Visiting Kilauea, Hawaii's Active Volcano

A popular Big Island odyssey is a drive to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you can visit Kilauea (it's a must-see for good reason; how often do you get to visit an erupting volcano?).

  6. probably not the best way is to go to a nearby observatory and watch it from there
