I would like to go on day trips or for week-end trips around Dublin, but no guided tours where you have to pay for a guide. I am thinking of a club...

Hi there!  I'm not sure if they are international yet, but you might try http://www.meetup.com  I've found a few great clubs here in in Georgia where I live and found some great friends already.  Good luck and have fun!!
