Firefox has a tab called IE tab, that can allow you to view pages in IE format. Should Firefox do the same for Google Chrome? What ideas do you have?

  1. I think the whole point of Google Chrome was to be faster and to have each tab separate (so if one tab crashes, it doesn't close the others) among a few other things...so I don't think a firefox tab to look like Google Chrome would have much point. However, it wouldn't do any harm to have that added so they might as well (although it would use up some of their time to do that).

  2. The main goal of the IE tab add on for Firefox was to make it so that when you come across a page that requires Internet Explorer you can just open the page in IE tab inside Firefox without having to start and switch to Internet Explorer.  Since there are no pages that require Google Chrome I think it's highly unlikely that anyone will develop a Google Chrome Tab add on for Firefox.

A good example is Yahoo's LaunchCast.  Since it relies on a very insecure technology that only Internet Explorer supports it won't work in other browsers.  Try to open LAUNCHcast radio in Firefox and you'll get this message:

    "Error 31

Sorry, we do not support the Firefox browser at this time."

    On this page:

    http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/music/l...

    they state:

"Yahoo! LAUNCHcast is currently compatible only with Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher for Windows.

Currently, we do not support LAUNCHcast Radio for Macintosh or Firefox on Windows. If you are experiencing difficulties utilizing our service with any other browser application, we recommend trying the above versions to correct the issue. "

Fortunately, more and more web sites are adhering to web standards every day.  Web sites like LAUNCHcast that only work in IE are rare now.  Usually when you do come across a site like LAUNCHcast there are alternatives that do work in real browsers (like AOL Radio).

  3. why would you want too?

google chrome is all about simple, speedy, web browsing.

as of now it doesnt, that would kind of ruin the point of it though. use google chrome for most things, i havent run into any problems yet(except for a couple programs at work that i knew wouldnt run on it). everything google makes is a blow out, just sit tight and ull get the app you need or google chrome will just take over

  4. hey man,

Firefox and google chrome are totally different

  5. I just downloaded Google Chrome a minute ago, and I immediately noticed a bit that pages load up faster on Google Chrome than on my Fire Fox 3 browser. Also it seems like Wikipedia supports that claim as well. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised since Google is all about search engines--that the team would want to maximize browsing speed also.

Within a few months Google's new browser (in beta stage currently) should really expand.  I can't say when it will dominate, but the browser is very simplistic and yet  very efficient as well!

Furthermore I've noticed tabs are also different from FireFox as well, as they are more towards the top of the page, and they can also be more easily dragged as well for easier managing I'm really digging the style of it as well!

Also, to answer your question about Google Chrome incorporating FireFox features, I can answer that with a yes. When I first downloaded Google Chrome, it gave me a notice that it would save all my bookmarks and any saved passwords from FireFox. After trying out Google Chrome after installation, I can assure you it really does save it all!

FireFox still is my favorite browser for Windows, but Google's Chrome Browser is really growing on me fast. I really can't wait for the google team to build applications for Chrome--so it will really take off!

Also.. Just beware though, that Chrome might not be as secure as Fire Fox at the moment . Supposedly people can get phished easier on Chrome then on Fire Fox, and there are a couple of security bugs that need to get fixed. A patch should fix that very soon though.

I hope this answers your questions, I did the best I could (:

  6. Google Chrome only runs on Windows. So, if you're using Firefox (like I am), you probably have a Mac.

  7. Its very interesting that Google has decided to take on a project like this. They obviously have such an interest in how people access the web, it was only a matter of time before they took things into their own hands. It is going to be very interesting to see how this pans out.
